High ability students, and high ability students with disabilities, may have unique social and emotional profiles in comparison to their peers. In this presentation, I will review research findings regarding the social and emotional needs of high ability students and consider how various aspects of identity may influence development. I will identify potential risk-factors that may impact the psychosocial components of talent development, and how these factors may manifest differently for high ability students with disabilities. Finally, I will suggest research-based strategies and interventions for parents and educators of gifted learners.
