Ulrike Balistreri

Kimberly Area School District
G/T Coordinator
Kimberly, WI
My name is Ulrike Balistreri and I am the Gifted and Talented Coordinator and resource teacher for students in grades 5-8. This is my 22nd year working with gifted students and their teachers in the Kimberly School District. Before that, I taught for several years in the regular classroom. In addition to a teaching degree from Austria and one from Wisconsin, I earned well over 40 credits beyond a master's degree (Educational Leadership with an emphasis in gifted education). In 2008, I earned National Board Certification, which is an achievement that less than 1% of Wisconsin teachers have merited. I also earned several teaching awards, including the Kohl Teacher Fellowship.
Our philosophy for teaching math: Students need multiple pathways to develop their mathematical promise. Our overarching goal is to enhance the characteristics that mathematically talented students often exhibit: a mathematical frame of mind, ability to think logically and construct generalizations, mathematical creativity, curiosity, and perseverance.
